Philosophy

Feeling stressed, overworked, tired and out of shape? You’re not alone, it’s estimated that over 75% of US corporate executives are locked in a self-destructive pattern of working hard and neglecting their health, fitness, and families. Sometimes they truly don’t know what to do about it but most of the times they are in complete denial, they are afraid to confront their self-sabotaging entity. So at Arizona Wellness Retreats we researched the problem, we’ve found the solution, and for over 15 years, we have been working with individuals and corporations alike to bring back life in balance to those who are truly committed to make a change. Are you one of those people? Ask the question, be honest with yourself.

The traditional world of fitness has failed to deliver! Five decades ago, it was almost impossible to see a three hundred pounds overweight person walking around, now unfortunately there are more OVERWEIGHT, OVERWORKED and OVERSTRESSED people in America than any other country in the world. Why? If you asked any fitness professional using the traditional approach to fitness what they feel or think about the issue, here is what they’d probably say:

“People are lazy!” or….
“People eat too much!” or…
“It’s a genetic problem!” or….
“People are too stressed out!”

Although these answers are maybe valid, they’re also misleading. The problem is far deeper and involves working with people as whole individuals; body, mind, and spirit. Until recently, all efforts were based on working with guests on a physical level, which is unrealistic if you asked me. A trainer or coach spends anywhere between 30 and 60 minutes with a client, using a physical approach, any fitness modality in most cases. What is the client doing with the other 23 hours? Well, that time is mostly spent in his head!!! Thoughts, emotions, feeling, belief and habits are conspiring in either creating a positive or negative psychological environment. A balanced approach to health and wellness is what people need if they want to enjoy long lasting weight loss, more energy, vitality, and happiness. The fitness industry continues to fail by creating more and more programs, products and equipment that address only a small portion of the equation. There are four times more so-called “revolutionary” fitness programs now than we had fifty years ago so why did the obesity pandemic quadrupled as well, ponder on that? America has earned a rather unflattering nickname, “The Fat Country”. We are at the forefront of a paradigm shift.

What we teach

Behavior change starts in the mind. The 2-Day Wellness Weekend Getaway Program helps participants develop the mindset necessary to navigate the difficult path of changing lifestyles. We create thoughtful coaching relationships by talking less and providing fewer answers. As a result, we help our participants find their own answers by “listening until we don’t exist” and asking compelling and relevant questions in a way that leads them to confront their truths and decide to take action.

The program is based on a systematic coaching process, based on engagement behavioral science principles, that empowers participants to engage their minds as well as their bodies to:

Become more self-aware – where they are at and where they want to go.
Dig deeper to find and engage their motivation.
Take responsibility for the difficult path of behavior change.
Create a personal fitness vision.
Commit to and be accountable for weekly, quarterly and annual behavioral goals after their stay with us.
Overcome obstacles to reach and sustain a higher level of health and fitness.
Gain confidence in their ability to change.
Accomplish more than they thought was possible.
